Kitesurf Cruise Antigua & Barbuda

Explore Antigua & Barbuda by Kite & Sail

Antigua and Barbuda is one of our favourite destinations for a Caribbean kitesurf cruise. Reliable trade winds, varied riding conditions and short sailing distances between the spots make it an excellent choice for guests who want to maximise their time on the water.

Many of the best kitesurfing locations are accessible only by boat and remain wonderfully uncrowded. During the cruise, you can experience protected flat-water lagoons, open-water freeride conditions and wave spots—all while travelling between some of the Caribbean’s most beautiful anchorages.

Antigua & Barbuda Kitesurfing Spot Guide

Discover some of the anchorages and kitesurfing spots you may visit during our Antigua and Barbuda kite cruise. The exact itinerary remains flexible and is adapted to the current wind, weather and sea conditions, as well as the riding levels and preferences of the group. However, these are our Highlights…

Nestled on Antigua’s sheltered west coast, Jolly Harbour is the ideal starting point for our Cruises and Trips. With its well-equipped marina, easy access from the airport, and a relaxed, friendly vibe, it offers everything you need to get ready for your adventure at sea. From provisioning stores, restaurants, and cafés to customs and immigration services—it’s all conveniently located within walking distance.

Cades Reef is our first stop of the Cruise and just one hour sail away from Jolly Harbour. Cades is a horseshoe shaped reef, on which inside you´ll have a nice anchorage, a perfect snorkel spot on the outside of the reef, as well as spectacular Kitesurf and Wingfoil Conditions.

English Harbour is one of Antigua’s most iconic and historically rich anchorages. Located on the island’s southern coast, it’s home to Nelson’s Dockyard, a beautifully restored 18th-century naval base and UNESCO World Heritage site. Today, it blends British colonial charm with a lively yachting scene, boutique restaurants, and quaint cafes, making it a must-visit stop for any sailor exploring the Caribbean.

Just above the harbour, perched on a hillside, lies Shirley Heights—famous for offering the most breathtaking panoramic views over English Harbour and Falmouth Harbour. The viewpoint is legendary for its Sunday sunset parties, where live steel bands, barbecue smoke, and a warm Caribbean breeze create the perfect island vibe.

Only a short sail from Antigua’s renowned English Harbour, Green Island welcomes you with crystal-clear waters and a tranquil lagoon. We will be anchored right behind the Reef in perfectly calm waters. The Reef offers a great snorkelling opportunity while Green Island itself has beautiful beaches and a stunning sundowner location. On one of the beaches there is a little Caribbean Beach Bar, providing cold drinks as well as local dishes.

From Green Island we set sail towards the huge Lagoon situated in the North of Antigua. Within this vast stretch of perfectly flat water inside the lagoon, there a several islands and anchorages. We will be anchored close to the famous “Hells Gate” Island. The entire area provides lots of opportunities to explore and enjoy the outstanding scenery.

From Hells Gate we set sail for a 3-4 hour crossing to Barbuda. A great time to catch some fresh fish, or to chill on the Trampolin of the Catamaran and watch the Ocean fly by underneath.

Spanish Point on the southern tip of Barbuda is always a highlight of the Cruise. The anchorage inside the Lagoon is a perfect place also for none Kitesurfers or Wingfoilers to have a first Taster Lesson or to try Foiling behind the boat.

Our next stop on Barbuda takes us to Palmetto Point, located at the island’s northernmost tip. Enjoy peaceful, crystal-clear waters and maybe the most perfect white sandy beach you´ve ever seen. You could walk for hours, stop on some local beach bars situated right on the water front and end the day with a Lobster BBQ on the Beach.

Tucked away in the protected waters of Antigua’s northeast coast, the bay surrounding Maiden Island is a true Caribbean treasure. Sheltered by surrounding reefs and dotted with tiny uninhabited islets, this calm and shallow bay offers stunning turquoise water and a peaceful, untouched vibe.

Maiden Island Bay is one of those secret spots that make Antigua feel like your own private island escape.

Wind & Weather Conditions on Antigua & Barbuda

Kitesurfing Antigua & Barbuda

The kitesurfing conditions around Antigua and Barbuda are remarkably varied. Many locations offer protected flat-water areas for comfortable freeriding, while more exposed sections provide waves and open-water conditions for experienced riders.

To join the cruise safely and make the most of the available spots, you should be able to ride upwind, relaunch your kite and return to the starting point independently. This corresponds approximately to VDWS Level 5. The cruise is therefore suitable for independent intermediate and advanced riders, but not for complete beginners.

Lifestyle in Antigua and Barbuda

Life aboard our catamaran follows a relaxed rhythm shaped by the wind, the sea and the islands around us. Mornings often begin with a swim in warm, crystal-clear water while the crew prepares breakfast at anchor.

When conditions are right, we head out for the first kitesurfing session of the day. Non-riding guests can explore the shore, go snorkelling, paddleboard or simply relax on deck.

Around midday, we may set sail for the next anchorage. Because many of the sailing distances around Antigua are relatively short, there is plenty of time to enjoy the journey and return to the water later in the day.

In the evening, everyone comes together for a sundowner on deck, followed by a freshly prepared dinner beneath the Caribbean sky.

The first Kitesurfing spot of our trip on Antigua and Barbuda is approximately one hour sail from Jolly Harbour.

The short answer would be – less than half of what you bring on a normal beach holiday. What you need is good sunscreen, ideally a hat and a Lycra shirt to protect you from the sun. You need a couple of Boardshorts / Bikinis, T-Shirts and FlipFlops. A windbreaker or a jumper for the evenings is a good idea. If you can, bring natural shampoo and soap, as it will all go into the ocean right away. A bottle to refill with drinking water is recommended.

Please pack in soft, collapsible bags to allow easy storage. And don´t forget your passport.
