Exumas

Exumas Overview

The Bahamas and Exumas, once the home of legendary pirates, today are a dream destination for kitesurfers and wingfoilers. These islands, with their crystal-clear turquoise waters, steady winds, and powdery white sand beaches, offer perfect conditions for kitesurfing and wingfoilers of all levels. The Exumas, in particular, are a paradise of unspoiled beauty, dotted with over 365 cays and islands. Making this Cruise a “must do” experience also for all none Kitesurfers.

Kite and Wingfoil Spot Guide

The spots listed here are really just a glimpse of the amount of anchorages available during our Cruise in the Exumas. Nevertheless, we believe those ones, you shouldn´t miss.
These two islands are usually the first stop of our Cruise down into the Exumas. These two islands alone, are home of at least 3 world class Kite,- and wingfoil spots and the first possibility for beautiful 10 mile Downwinder.
Two kitespots are waiting for us on those islands. One of them easy accessible and situated directly on our anchorage. The other one, – an upwind ride through a shallow Lagoon of about 20 minutes away. The Scenery will blow your mind!
Here we´re entering the Marine Nature Park of the Exumas and the Beauty of the surroundings increases even a little further. Wardericks Wells is a very easy spot for all riders. Crystal clear water, steady winds and starting directly from our Yacht. Sandy Cay is a spot in the middle of nowhere and most likely one of the most stunning spots you will ever ride.
The Mice is a labyrinth of small islands, lagoons, channels and sandbars. Navigation through those waters is tricky and usually everybody is on deck, helping to navigate the Yacht through this maze of islands and shallows. The reward are literally hundreds of out-of-this world Kite and Wingfoil spots. Entirely uncrowded. Most likely we´re the only ones there…
Stanley Cay is home of the famous pig beach, which of course we will visit as well. Other than that, there is a beautiful Spot for Kitesurfers and Wingfoilers right in front of it, called Sandy Cay – and since there are a lot of Sandy Cays, we called it Sandy Cay 2. The evening we can spend in the authentic Sailors Bar on Stanley Cay and experience a bit of rare shore time on this cruise.

The Yachts

The Yachts in our Fleet are not just simple Charter Boats. They´re outfitted exactly to the needs of our cruises. Despite a certain size of Yacht and Cabins, we ensure that every cabin has a private bathroom and shower, that the Yacht offers different chill-out areas for groups of people to spread out and relax, electricity is produced by solar panels and we make our own drinking water to avoid any plastic bottles on board.

Kitesurfing Exumas

The Kitesurf conditions and spots during our Kite Cruise in the Exumas are a mix between perfect flat water conditions, shallow lagoons and long, beautiful downwinders from one island to the next. The Wind is usually not very strong, so we recommend packing bigger kites as well. The most common Kite size for heavier riders is 12-14 Meters, while lighter Riders use 10-12 Meters. The level of experience and skill needed to join a cruise and make the most out of all the spots, is VDWS Level 5 – or in other words, being able to ride upwind safely.

Wingfoiling Exumas

To us maybe the best Wingfoil Location we know… Wingfoiling in the Exumas, means flying above crystal clear water, in between the islands. The Exumas are the perfect location for Wingfoilers of absolutely all levels. The Wind is usually not super strong, so we recommend wing sizes between 4 and 5.5 Meters. For all of you who love downwinders – this is a must- do Cruise!

Sailing in the Exumas

Sailing in the Exumas is a little like sailing in a swimming pool. The water really never gets deeper than 5 Meters, absolutely no waves, Seasickness is not an issue and literally the entire area is one huge, beautiful anchorage.

Life in the Exumas

There is no better way to start your holidays than setting sail aboard a yacht. Just a few minutes after the vessel leaves the harbour, a feeling of deep relaxation and tranquility kicks in. A typical day in the Caribbean starts off with a swim in 26 degree crystal clear, warm water at our anchorage while the crew prepares breakfast.

After breakfast we start into our first activity session of the day.

At noon we set sail and while you peacefully enjoy a snack on board, we are heading to our next anchorage and different island. Enjoy a swim with the pigs or discover the little islands on a hike.

At sunset we usually meet with everyone on board to end the day with a sundowner drink on deck, followed by a nice dinner on board.

Should a trip be cancelled for any

Yes, all our Yachts offer free WIFI for our guest. The coverage and speed is good enough to receive emails and whatsapp at all times, but not always good enough to have extended zoom calls or to stream movies

Yes, of course! As a single traveler you have two options. Either you can book a single Cabin, but the extra fee is quite high. We have to charge 60-70% on top of the normal charter fee for the double cabin. The other option is to share the Cabin with another individual traveler. This sounds challenging – we know – but in reality never ever has been a problem. Give us a ring if you´re in doubt 🙂

The short answer would be – less than half of what you bring on a normal beach holiday. What you need is good sunscreen, ideally a hat to protect you from the sun and a Lycra shirt. Other than that you would need a couple of Boardshorts / Bikinis, T-Shirts and FlipFlops. No long pants, no Dresses. A windbreaker or a jumper for the evenings is a good idea.
